Joanna Cobleigh, Attorney at Law

A Better Way to Resolve Disputes

My goal is to help YOU retain control over your personal legal issues, rather than requiring a judge to determine what is in your family's best interests. My practice focuses on family law issues. These include divorce, adoption, custody, visitation, child support, and parental rights. I am a mediation-friendly attorney and will review your settlement agreement created through mediation. I am also a collaborative law attorney who believes in the non-adversarial process for resolving family disputes.

Domestic and Family Law

I am able to provide mediation services for a variety of conflicts. I can mediate disputes surrounding family issues, as well as any conflict that may have arisen between two parties, such as neighbor-to-neighbor disagreements or private disputes.

Limited Assistance Representation

I am qualified to provide you with my services through Limited Assistance Representation, or “LAR”.  It allows me to “ghost write” court documents for you. It allows me to negotiate on your behalf or advise you without full representation in court. LAR can help cut your legal costs by “unbundling” the services provided by a lawyer.

Collaborative Family Law

I am a trained Collaborative Law attorney who believes that family conflicts can often be better resolved outside of the courts. This means I will represent you as your attorney. All negotiations are done in cooperation with another collaborative law attorney and with the other family member involved in the dispute. Together, we agree to resolve all the issues out of court and present a joint agreement to the court at the end of the process.

Guardian ad Litem

A Guardian ad Litem (GAL) is a person the court appoints to represent the best interests of a child in a divorce or parental rights and responsibilities case.  The GAL will investigate the family situation and advise the court about where a child should live and what type of contact parents should have with their children.

While the primary goal of mediation is to resolve differences, mediation also promotes communication and cooperation which allows you to control the decisions that affect your life. Mediation is frequently less costly than litigation. Mediation benefits children and others involved by reducing conflict. Mediation can often be completed in less time than litigation allowing you to move ahead with your life.

Mediation to STAY Married

There is an effective alternative to settle differences rather than a costly courtroom battle. Joanna is a dispute mediator and a certified general member of the Association for Conflict Resolution, which is a professional organization dedicated to enhancing the practice and public understanding of conflict resolution. Through her special training in divorce mediation, she helps people in conflict make practical, informed decisions to resolve the issues before them.
